Guidelines For The Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (mtcp) Scholarship 2024

The MTCP Scholarship is sponsored by the Malaysian government and dedicated to international students from developing countries to pursue their postgraduate studies in Malaysia, whilst at the same time acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills that could contribute to the development of their country. The duration of the award is between 24 to 36 months for the Master’s Degree Programme (MTCP-2024).

GENERAL INFO ON THE MTCP-2024 SCHOLARSHIP:

The application for the Scholarship is open from 14 June 2024 until 14 July 2024. Interested applicants may apply for the MTCP Scholarship through the MTCP website. This scholarship is open for a full-time Master’s Degree only for 2024/2025.
The Scholarship is offered to outstanding graduates from the MTCP recipient countries as listed in Annex I (MTCP-2024).

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA OF MTCP-2024 SCHOLARSHIP:

  • Applicants must comply with the following criteria:
  • Not more than 45 years old at the time of application;
  • Obtain a minimum of Second Class Upper (Honours) or a minimum CGPA of 3.5 or equivalent at the Undergraduate Degree level;
  • Provide proof of English Language Proficiency: Scanned copy of the original proof of English Language Proficiency such as IELTS (minimum total score of 6) or TOEFL internet-based test (minimum total score of 60); or has obtained a previous degree(s) with English used as the medium of instruction.
  • Has an excellent level of health certified by a doctor/ physician. The applicant shall fully bear the cost of the medical check-up. The medical report form can be downloaded from the MTCP scholarship website (MTCP-2024).

APPLICATION PROCESS OF MTCP-2024 SCHOLARSHIP:

Interested applicants may register and apply for MTCP Scholarship at https://mtcp.kln.gov.my/register_scholarship.
The system utilized for registration shall also be used for the entire application and selection procedure. Applicants may be required to log in to the system at different stages of the process to obtain updates on the status of their application or to provide supplementary documents.

Applicants are required to submit the following documents in the online application system (scanned and saved in PDF format) to complete their application:

  • A certified passport copy as evidence of nationality (minimum of 12 months validity)
  • A certified copy of the Academic Transcript; a Record of all the courses taken throughout the degree program must be reflected in the academic transcripts;
  • Applicants must submit transcripts of their undergraduate studies; and Applicants must submit an official document issued by the applicants’ alma mater describing the university’s grade system. If an applicant’s transcript does not include information on CGPA, marks, or score percentile, the documents must be certified.
  • A certified copy of the English Language Proficiency test (TOEFL/ IELTS/ PTE/ CAE/ CPE/ MUET/ equivalent qualification) or an official letter from the previous institution declaring English as the medium of instruction used for the obtained degree(s) Curriculum VitaeMedical examination report (can be downloaded from the MTCP scholarship website, https://mtcp.kln.gov.my/scholarship)
  • Letter of Recommendation from two (2) referees (can be downloaded on the MTCP scholarship website, https://mtcp.kln.gov.my/scholarship)
  • Latest Admission Offer Letter from Malaysian Universities for academic intake 2024 (if applicable). The list of universities supported by the MTCP Scholarship is listed in Annex II (MTCP-2024).

MTCP SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS OF MTCP-2024 SCHOLARSHIP:

Tuition fees for the whole sponsorship period will be paid directly to the university upon issuance of the invoice by the university;
A monthly allowance of RM3,500.00 per month will be paid directly to the recipient’s Malaysian bank account; and
One-off return economy class airline ticket from the student’s closest international airport to Malaysia and back to the student’s home country (MTCP-2024).

AREAS OF STUDY OF MTCP-2024 SCHOLARSHIP:

Priority will be given to the following areas of study: i. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (not including nursing, medicine, and clinical pharmacy).  Other areas of study: ii. Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries; iii. Economics and Finance; iv. Education; v. Environment; vi. International Relations and Political Science; and vii. Social Science and Humanities (MTCP-2024).

SELECTION CRITERIA OF THE MTCP-2024 SCHOLARSHIP:

Applications will be considered according to the following selection criteria: i. High-level academic and extra-curricular achievement; and ii. Excellent communication, writing, and reading skills in the English Language (MTCP-2024).

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF MTCP-2024 SCHOLARSHIP:

Recipients must undertake a full-time Master’s Degree program in Malaysia during the period as stated in the Scholarship Offer Letter.
Recipients must not change their program during the tenure of the scholarship except with written permission from the university and the MTCP Secretariat.
Recipients must fulfill the requirements of the study program and abide by Malaysian laws and the university’s rules, regulations, and codes of conduct.
Any suspension from the university will result in immediate suspension of the award.

Monthly allowances are not payable during the suspension.
It is the responsibility of successful recipients to apply and meet the requirements for the issuing of an appropriate entry visa including medical examination. The cost of the visa application shall be fully borne by the recipients. Further information and application details.

Recipients must maintain satisfactory academic progress and good standing throughout the study duration as stipulated by their host university, failure to do so will result in the scholarship being withdrawn. The scholarships are tenable in Malaysian Universities and studies must be carried out in Malaysia.
Recipients are not allowed to take any paid employment during their tenure unless with written approval from the host university and the MTCP Secretariat (MTCP-2024).
